Renewal of Driving Licence

The validity of a driving license is 20 years. This becomes the reason why most of us do not check the expiry date on the license. For some, this realization dawns at a very bad time i.e. when asked to produce the document by the traffic police. To avoid being in a soup by producing an expired driving license, it is necessary to know the date of expiry in order to schedule the driving license renewal in a timely manner.

1. To apply for a renewal DL, you need to visit: https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in/
2. Select your state where you want to apply
3. Following are the steps that you need to go through for the application:
1. Fill Applicant/Request Details
2. Upload Documents (if required)
3. Upload Photo and Signature if required (applicable only in certain states)
4. Driving License Test Slot Booking -required only for Additional Endorsement of Driving License(AEDL)
5. Payment of Fee
6. Verify the Pay Status
7. Print the Receipt
4. Select appropriate choice from below:
1. Applicant does not hold Driving/ Learner Licence
2. Applicant holds Driving Licence, Enter DL Number
3. Applicant holds Learner Licence, Enter LL Number

Note: Please Enter the Licence number as it is, even if it contains space.

5. In our case its option (b) apply for renew DL
6. We need to give our DL number and DOB, RTO name and state
7. In Renew DL case application will be already filled with saved information.
8. Once you verify its your detail you need to submit the application. At the bottom you have option to submit the application:

9. Once application number is generated you will get below screen:

10. You need to print your Form 1A Form 1A is the medical fitness certificate that you need to take print out and then you will need to attest it from gazetted medical officer in RTO itself or outside.

11. You can see application status here: https://sarathi.parivahan.gov.in
    >> Select State >> Select Application Status >> Fill your application number and DOB to login.
12. Next step is to upload your documents. Below are the required documents:
1. Driving Licence
2. Address Proof (Present) Click here to see Valid Documents
3. Medical Certificate-Form1A
13. Next step is to UPLOAD PHOTO AND SIGNATURE
14. Next step is to FEE PAYMENT

So now as it is renewal of existing Licence below is the fee what I have been charged. In my case it was Rs 400/-

15. Now when payment is done you need to do last step that is Slot booking for test:

16. Once you have booked your slot. You will get a message that your appointment is on particular date and time.
17. You will appear on DL test on computer on given date and time along with face and biometric scan and document verification to be done on the same day.

Once you pass the exam, your renewed DL will be sent to you at your mentioned address by post.
